Box Score Seton Hill took to the court for the first time in school history in a NCAA Regional Semifinal on Friday evening in Wheeling Jesuit. The result was not one that the Griffins fans wanted as Seton Hill battled #1 Wheeling Jesuit but could not take a set, falling in three to the top seeded Cardinals. SHU ends the season with a 32-6 record, a new school record for wins in a season.
Wheeling Jesuit came out of the gates flying, scoring the first seven points of the set.
Corrine Gahagen finally got the Griffins on the scoreboard with a kill. The Cardinals continued to build their lead and led 11-3 before a kill from
Shelby Kyllo ended another Cards run.
Maggie Murray and Kyllo combined on a block to trim the lead to 12-5. SHU battled back into the set and trailed 16-10 after a WJU hitting error. The Cards then went on another 3-0 run to take a 19-10 lead and force another SHU timeout. Kyllo cut the lead back to eight at 20-12. Kyllo and
Emily Gilles combined on a block and SHU trailed 21-13. Back to back kills from Kyllo trimmed the lead to 22-16. Another kill from Kyllo followed by an ace and SHU trailed 23-19. Wheeling ended the set with a 25-19 victory.
The Griffins take an early 2-1 lead after a kill from Gahagen. Malsch cuts the Cards lead to 5-4 and an ace from Gahagen ties the set at 5. A net violation on the Cards gives the Griffins a 7-6 lead. Wheeling then went on a 7-1 run to take a 13-8 lead, forcing the Griffins to take a timeout. Kyllo ends the run with a kill. A kill from
Cassie Hausfeld cuts the lead to 13-10. Kills from
Courtney Field and Gahagen cut the lead to 15-12. The Cards then go on a 4-1 run to take a 19-13 lead and force the Griffins to take their second timeout of the set. SHU then went on a 4-0 run on kills from Malsch, Kyllo and Gilles to cut the lead to 20-17. SHU cut the lead to 22-20 on a kill from
Shelby Kyllo. A WJU hitting error and SHU trailed 22-21. A Griffin hitting error and a Cards block gave WJU set point. Wheeling took the set 25-21 to take a 2-0 lead over the Griffins.
The Griffins took an early 4-3 lead in the third set on a kill from Kyllo. Hausfeld cut the Cards lead to 6-5 with a kill. A tip kill from Gahagen cuts the Jesuit lead to 8-7. An ace from Malsch ties the set at 10. A block from Field and Kyllo and a kill from Hausfeld gave the Griffins a 13-12 lead. Gahagen ties the set at 14 with a kill. Another kill from Gahagen and Malsch and SHU leads 16-14. Gahagen ties the set at 17 with another kill. Gilles follows with a kill and SHU leads 18-17. An ace from Field and a WJU hitting error forces a WJU timeout with the Griffins leading 20-17. Back to back points from the Cardinals force a SHU timeout with the Griffins leading 20-19. A block from Gahagen gives SHU a 21-19 lead. Malsch puts the lead back at two at 22-20 with a kill. Wheeling then runs off five straight to take match 25-22.
