Box Score The Seton Hill volleyball team hosted the PSAC semifinals and took on Shippensburg in the second semifinal. The Griffins swept the visiting Raiders to advance to their first ever PSAC Championship match.
Shippensburg started off quickly scoring the first three points of the match. SHU responded with kills from
Courtney Field and
Shelby Kyllo and a block from
Cassie Hausfeld to tie the set at 3. Two SHU net violations gave the Raiders a 7-5 lead.
Abigail Malsch cut the lead to 8-7 with a kill. Ship extended the lead to 12-8. Hausfeld's kill trimmed the lead to 12-10. Ship got the lead back to 15-11 before Hausfeld's kill put the Griffins on a 3-0 run.
Corrine Gahagen tied the set at 15 with a kill. Ship scored two to take a 17-15 lead. Another kill from Gahagen cuts the Ship lead to 18-17. Malsch trims the lead to 19-18 with a kill. Ship could not handle a SHU serve and the match was tied at 19, forcing a Ship timeout. Kyllo gives the Griffins their first lead of the set at 20-19 with a kill. Back to back kills from Kyllo extends the SHU lead to 23-20. Kyllo ended the set with a kill and SHU takes the first set 25-20.
A kill from Gahagen and a block from Kyllo gave the Griffins the early 3-0 lead in the second set. The Griffins were able to extend that lead to 6-1, forcing a Shippensburg timeout. Field put it over on two twice in a row to give the Griffins a 10-3 lead. SHU led 12-4 forcing another Ship timeout. Gahagen gives SHU a 16-5 lead. Malsch puts one to the floor and SHU leads 20-5 in the second. Hausfeld's ace extends the lead to 21-5. Hausfeld gets a kill to put SHU three points away from a 2-0 lead. Gahagen makes it 23-8. Kyllo ends the set with a kill and SHU takes a 2-0 lead with a 25-10 second set win.
Seton Hill jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead in the third set. Ship battled back to tie the set at 5 before a Kyllo kill gave SHU a 6-5 lead. Gahagen ties the set at 9 with a kill. A block from Gahagen and Malsch give SHU the lead at 10-9.
Emily Gilles got a kill with a tip and SHU led the set 11-10. Ship went on a 3-0 run to take a 13-11 lead but Kyllo ended the run with a kill. Another kill from Kyllo and SHU tied the set at 13. Gahagen ties the set at 16 with a kill in a very tightly played set. Back to back blocks from Ship gave the Raiders a 19-16 lead. Gilles cut the Ship lead to 21-19 with a kill. Two errors from the Raiders and SHU trims the lead to 22-21, forcing a Raiders timeout. Kyllo and Hausfeld team up for a block to tie the set at 22. Two straight from Ship and SHU calls their second timeout of the set. Two errors from Ship and the Griffins tie the set at 24. Hausfeld's kill gave SHU a 25-24 lead. Ship answers to tie the set at 25. Hausfeld ties the set back up at 26. Gahagen gives SHU a 27-26 lead. Malsch ended the set and the match with a kill, giving the Griffins the match with a 28-26 victory.
Cassie Hausfeld led the Griffins with 12 kills. She also added 12 digs.
Shelby Kyllo finished with 11 kills and 2 blocks.
Corrine Gahagen added 8 kills and
Abigail Malsch finished with 6 kills.
Seton Hill will play for their first PSAC Championship in school history on Sunday afternoon against California. First serve is set for 12:10 PM. The game will be broadcast live on PCN TV
